Description
2012 was the first year of a new multi-terrain race series, sponsored by Personal Best and supported by The National Trust, bringing together a number of races organised by various clubs across the county. The races all have significant off-road sections and include sections of tracks/footpaths that are single-person wide where overtaking won’t be possible. The majority of races are in beautiful and interesting landscapes from National Trust woodland to Bodmin Moor, and you can expect mud, streams, beaches and plenty of hills!
To achieve a series completion award you must complete a minimum of 6 of the 10 races. As usual there’s no obligation to run 6 or more races – you can enter just 1 if you like, perfect for pulling on your trail shoes and giving off-road a go!
The races are open to all and in this initial series all individuals will be included in the Series tables regardless of whether they are a member of one of the affiliated Cornish Running Clubs. Members of affiliated running clubs must wear their club colours during the competition (see ‘Kit’ below).
Scoring and competition
There are two individual competitions for both Male and Female, the “Open” and the “Age” category competition. All ages compete in the open and the winner of the race is awarded 300 points and second place 299 and so on down the field. Once a competitor has completed more than the minimum 6 races the lowest scores will be discarded.
For the category competition the competitor’s age on the 1st January 2012 is their competition age for the series. The winner of each age category is awarded 100 points and the second place 99 and so on down the field.
Age categories
- Male under 40, M40-44, M45-49 M50-54, M55-59 M60-64, M65-69 M70-74, M75+
- Female under 35, F35- 39, F40-44, F45-49 F50-54, F55-59 F60-64, F65-69 F70+
Both the men’s and the women’s team competition require teams of four to score. These will be the first four male finishers from a club and the first four female finishers from a club. The team competition is open to affiliated running club teams from Cornwall.
The series is organised by the Cornwall Road Running and Racing Group
How do I enter?
You can register through TRC’s GP Race Co-ordinator, Alison Joslin. Contact Alison by email or see her at the club on Wednesday evenings to let her know which upcoming races you’d like to be registered for and she will enter you as part of a club booking – which means you won’t have to complete any forms! Alternatively, you can enter direct by downloading entry forms via the fixtures list (above or on left hand side of the website).
How do I get my race number?
If you register direct the race organisers will inform you of when and how you will receive your race number.
If Alison has registered for you, you will need to collect your number on race day. Come into the venue (race hq) and find the TRC registration table where Alison or a TRC representative will sign you in and give you your number.
Please note that the TRC registration table will close 30 minutes before the race start. Once signed in you’ll have time to find the bag storage, meet up with the team, visit the loo etc, and do a proper warm up before the start. (If you arrive after the desk has closed there will be no-one to sign you in and you may miss the race.)
If you’ve registered for a race with Alison but find you can’t make it on the day, please ensure you email her and she can refund you your entry fee where possible (according to individual race guidelines). Anyone unable to make it, or turning up later than 30 minutes before race start is likely to have their number re-allocated to other runners wanting to take part.
Kit
You must wear your race number on the front of your vest and as a member of TRC you must also wear a TRC race vest. (Full details of all TRC kit, including race vests, can be found here.)
Anything else you wear is up to you, but if you need advice contact Adrian, (Head coach), who’ll be happy to help!
Please note that for safety reasons MTRS rules state that MP3 players must not be used during any races and if you do you will be disqualified.
