Runners from far and wide joined TRC to kick off the new year this morning on the legendary Brown Willy Run up on the wilds of Bodmin Moor. Come back for a full report soon, in the mean time just look at the smiling faces a bit of bog and wind can provide!!!
Many thanks to Richard Willson, all the people on registration and marshalling duty, the Jamaica Inn and of course The Cornwall Search and Rescue Team (who very nearly had to do some searching!!!!)

1st January 2012, 11am
A TRC event organised by Richard Wilson. Not a race, but an an ideal opportunity to blow away the Christmas cobwebs – and New Year’s Eve hangovers!
It’s a well signed informal run of about 7 miles, starting at The Jamaica Inn, signposted just off the A30 on Bodmin Moor. The run is mostly on open moorland, which may be wet, slippery, boggy or frozen, and it’s steep in places. Even when it doesn’t feel too cold at Jamaica Inn, it may be freezing and blowing a hooly on the top of Brown Willy. Please come appropriately clothed and shod. Although it’s for all standards of runner, it is for runners, not strollers, and we will slowly start to dismantle the course from the top of Brown Willy at about 12.00, following the last runners back to Jamaica Inn by about 13.00.
There is no entry fee, just a request to consider a generous donation in our charity box. Half the proceeds will be going to the Cornwall Search & Rescue Team, who turn out every year to ensure our safety. Registration is just inside the pub next to the car park. Please register before the run by filling out your name and emergency contact number, then tick the ‘Out’ box, and on your return, please just tick the ‘Back’ box, so that we know you’re safe.
Jamaica Inn generously open their doors to us, and I would ask everyone to be considerate, and change out of muddy footwear and clothing before coming back into the pub. A warm welcome will await you by the crackling log fire in the front bar, and you can compare notes with friends over a pint or a meal.
In short, it’s the perfect way to start the New Year. A Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year to you all.

This week Rob proposes we do a 50 minute out and back session, using a warm-up run from the rugby club down to Garras Wharf and to then proceed along Newham Quay using the footpath skirting Tesco and the offices along the side of the river. We’ll then cross-over just past the Royal Mail sorting office and join the Newham trail until we get to the exit for the footpath that follows the western side of New County Hall, which pops out at the main road at Higher Town close to the County arms, where you’ll need to turn left and head up in the direction of Treliske Hospital. Keep going until you’ve run for 25 minutes and have a rest for 2 minutes if you wish and then head back to the club in as close a time to 25 mins as you can.
Groups will be broken down into the folowing (2 x Leaders/volunteers per group, leaders to be confirmed):
Foundation – 10+ min miles
Improvers – 9 to 10 min milers
8 to 9 min milers
7 to 8 min milers
Please note that Rob is holding a short meeting after the training session to discuss the schedule and Leader/Coach development at the club.
See you at the club tomorrow at 6.30

Get out your diaries and add the 18th September 2011 to your race calendar! Yes, the Truro Half Marathon date was confirmed yesterday. Registration forms will be available on the site shortly.
Devoran Salt Marsh, along part of the Truro Half Marathon route 2010
TRC is set to get the ball rolling for this year’s Truro Half Marathon. The proposed race date is mid September, but the specific date will be confirmed in the next couple of weeks pending the application for a race licence, confirmation of the route and any traffic issues.
As you might recall last year’s route was a new one and got some favourable comments:
“…a much nicer route than the previous one!”, Sam Perkin, Mounts Bay Harriers (2010 race report).
“Overall I thought the course this year was a lot better than the old one, certainly felt quicker which is good!”, Duncan Oakes, St Austell Running Club (2010 race report).
“The new course received positive responses from the majority of the runners, but still ranks as a tough challenge…”, Paul Wright, Newquay Road Runners (2010 race report).
We’d like to do even better this year and make this the best THM to date, so what do you think we could do to improve the whole experience? Make sure you have your say on any aspect of the race (the course, the marshalling, registration, drinks stations, prize-giving, etc) and leave a comment below. If you want to see changes, or you love it just the way it is, whether you ran in the race, were a spectator or a volunteer, now’s the time to say what you think – don’t be shy!
We look forward to hearing from you
Stephie
