Claire Conquers Cumbria!

Our Claire [Longman] dipped her toes into a new field this week and ‘showed the vest’ in pastures new in Penrith, Cumbria with great results! Really must stop with the dreadful puns… so over to Claire!

Claire showing the TRC vest - on great form!

I didn’t really think that I would be ‘blogging’ on the TRC website about my holiday in Cumbria this half term but I thought some of you might be interested in the TRC vest appearing in the top half of the results of a Cumbrian Cross-Country race!!

When my friend, who lives in Cumbria, came down to visit in May this year I challenged her to the first of the Penzance Jubilee Pool Aquathons and I nearly killed her by making her plunge into the open water pool, with no wetsuit, on a cold May evening. So I shouldn’t have been surprised when she challenged me to what she called a ‘low-key 5k cross-country with one hill’ and I actually completed a 7.4km race consisting of 4 laps of a 4-hill cross-country course!! Having said that, even though it was really hard work, I really enjoyed it and think I might give the Cornish Cross-Country a go next year. It’s a pleasant change from road-racing and the atmosphere was really friendly and welcoming. I was even approached by someone after the race who went to Truro School and used to live in St Agnes [where Claire lives] – small world!! And I managed to come home 4th Lady and 3rd in category so I like any race where that is the result!!

Here are a few photos of the TRC vest on tour!! Back now, ready for the Cornwall vs Devon on Sunday. I will try and get a race report for that one out soon after.

  • Congratulations Claire! That’s a fantastic result, hope you were pleased? I might join you in the Westward League next year when, hopefully, (after a lot more training!) I’ll have less chance of coming in last!!!!!! Great photos by the way – love the ones with the girls :) High five!

Well done claire. it was Redruths version of an off road event today, but no sunshine to be seen..plenty of mud and puddles to contend with. May try the January Cornwall V Devon event weather depending!
